A Tangled Destiny: Prologue

Prologue

	A thousand years ago our moon was home to a great civilization.  For
thousands of years the royal line had ruled in peace, the daughter taking the
title of Queen Serenity when the mother decided to pass it down.  Until one
fateful generation when the current Queen Serenity gave birth to twins.  The
eldest was named Serenity, who would inherit everything, while the younger was
given the name Metallia.
	Near the end of the empire Earth requested to enter and the King.  An
agreement was reached.  The Earth King's first son would marry Queen
Serenity's Granddaughter, as both Serenity and Metallia already had suitors.
	Then one day the Queen was brutally murdered.  All the evidence pointed
towards the eldest child, Princess Serenity, and her would be court.  The
elders had no choice but to banish the girl destined to be Queen (and all
others involved in the plot) and give the title of Queen to Metallia along
with the Silver Crystal.
	Many believed that Metallia had framed her sister to gain power, but Queen
Metallia proved to be a great and compassionate leader; soon these rumors were
all but forgotten.
	Many years passed.  Metallia was married and had a daughter whom she named
Beryl.  Queen Metallia ordered that each planet must send it's warrior with
the greatest potential to become Beryl's honor guard.  From Mercury came,
Jadeite.  From Venus, Nephrite.  From Mars, Zoicite.  From Jupiter, Kunzite.
Earth's Prince was excluded as he, Edymion, was to marry Beryl.
	On the other side of the Galaxy, Queen Serenity and her court had not been
remained idle all these years.  They had found power, a dark power.  There was
also a new generation.  The former royal family of Mercury named their new
Princess Ami.  Venus's new Princess was given the name Minako.  Mars's new
Princess was named Rei.  Jupiter's Princess was named Mokoto.  Queen
Serenity's daughter also bared the name Serenity.
	Finally Queen Serenity launched a surprise attack against her sister Queen
Metallia.  The battle was fierce and in the end Queen Serenity was slain, but
not without cost.  Although Princess Beryl's honor guard had fought bravely,
in the end they were defeated, and the Princess slain along with her betrothed
Prince Edymion.
	In her grief Queen Metallia used the last of her energy to imprison the
Princess Serenity and her General's, while sending her daughter's life force
to be resurrected in the future, along with Beryl's honor guard, and Prince
Edymion.  Queen Metallia also made preparations in case Serenity's line ever
returned.  A moon cat named Luna was instructed to locate Beryl if Serenity
returned, and another moon cat named Artemis was to find Edymion.  Afterwards
the Silver Crystal disappeared.
	The Earth King attempted to keep the empire from falling apart but he was
ultimately unable.

1000 years later
	Artemis scoured the the remains of the car wreck and sighed.  There was no
mistaking it; the energy was too familiar.  Prince Edymion had been here.
Maybe the boy had survived somehow and gotten away.
	"I'll just have to search the surrounding area and see if I can pick up his
trail,"  Artemis muttered to himself.
	"Ah, Artemis, so good to see you again," came a man's voice from behind,
startling Artemis.  "A pity you're too late to help.  It was such a sad
accident."  The air practically reeked of sarcasm.
	Artemis recognized the voice.  "You!  Killing the Queen Serenity was low but
I never thought you'd sink to this."  Artemis tried to remain calm.  He had to
buy time until he could figure out if the Prince had died.
	"Well Artemis you always were a smart one.  How did you figure me out."  The
voice seemed to be coming from all directions.
	"I didn't, you just told me."  Damn it why can't I sense Prince Edymion.
Wait, there's a scent leading from the crash, somehow the prince must have
realized that someone was after him and hid his aura.  But how he's just a
little kid.
	"Very good Artemis.  It really is too bad you weren't here to see your
mission end so abruptly."  A figure appeared in front of Artemis and before he
could react a hand jutted out and grabbed him by the throat.  Artemis was
hoisted into the air.
	"Metallia's daughter and her guardians will be reborn very soon.  I've also
taken the liberty to begin the process that will unlock the young Serenity and
her court.  They should be free in about fifteen years.  Wouldn't it be a
shame if they finished the fight their mothers began.  Won't it be marvelous,
Artemis.  The descendants of the woman I killed are going to find the crystal
for me."  The voice paused for dramatic affect.  "Well too bad you're going to
miss that as well, can't have you running around alerting everyone."
	There was a loud snap as the hand twisted Artemis's neck.  Artemis smiled
inside, knowing that the Prince had gotten away.  Then the figure dropped his
lifeless body to the ground.

Author's note-
	C&C (public and private) is always welcome.  This is a rough draft and I'd
appreciate it if people would point out my grammar mistakes (this way there
are less in the future.)  If you bothered reading this I'd like to hear from
you.  If anyone would like to preread future chapters of this just e-mail me.
	While the fic won't be following the original, it will be following the
format of the TV show.  Meaning for most chapters there's going to be a bit of
plot revealed while the majority of the chapter deals with the villain of the
week. I'd like to hear any ideas for how Serenity (Usagi) will gather energy
to resurrect her mother.  She has the scouts with her although their powers
are more similar to the Dark Kingdom's powers.  Also any youma ideas will be
greatly appreciated.

For those who care-
	I came up with this idea because I wanted to write about Beryl and her
generals, who get very little attention in fanfiction.  I decided to do an
alternate reality fic reversing the roles, Beryl and the generals would be the
heroes, while Usagi and the senshi the villains.  Instead of merely reversing
the roles I wanted to give the story more of a twist, hence the beginning
monologue, which gives a way this switch could occur (I do realize that Queen
Metallia and Queen Serenity aren't sisters in the original.)  I then decided
that this was too cut and dry so I decided to add the who killed Serenity
mystery.  I know exactly how this is going to end and will probably have the
last two chapters written before chapter one goes out on the FFML.
