Now, the question I was talking about (unburdened from the biased language
used in the original asking, which is meant to beg a certain answer): How
have you (anyone) as a writer been affected by the kinds of criticisms you
have heard from others on this list? How have they (the criticisms) changed
the way you've written?

As a new writer, I can say that when I'm reading C&C by somebody,
most of the time, the way in which they say it shapes my reactions. I
know that the merits of the C&C should be based on content, but things
that the writer perceives as an attack will be received with a closed
mind.
For example, a few weeks back, I received two fairly extensive
C&C's from Blade and Sean Connor. Blade had worded his rather neutrally,
while I had felt that Sean's was a bit hostile. Though both basically
covered the same point - that I wasn't as familiar with Ukyou as I had
thought - my reaction to the two C&C's was vastly different. Even though
they were pointing out the exact same problems in many cases.
I kinda wrangled with Sean for a while about it, but now that I
think it over, I was the one being rude. He had been very frank and
honest in his opinions, and I should have thanked him for it instead of
getting peeved. If you're reading this Sean, I guess I'm giving you a
late apology.
As for my story, I kept the plot to a large extent. I reshaped
a few portions to try to make up for the slight OOC-ness that was pointed
out, but all in all, I must agree with the people say that the story
writes itself, and I am merely a medium through which it expresses itself.
But enough on that.
C&C is valuable, and if we feel that we have a *constructive*
point to make, we should. We should remember, however, that there is
another human being sitting at the other terminal, one who is more likely
to hear you out if they don't feel like they're whole system of beliefs
is under siege.

My 2 and a half cents,
