What does Lawson have to do with it? And just what is so bizarre about
that characterisation?
That scene was *very* similar to one in _Right Side of the Ledger_ by
Lawson.
He likes coming up with bizarre characterizations, one of which happens
to be Nabiki's. The real Nabiki is like Yotsuya; not especially
interested in money, but in self-indulgence. And, also like Yotsuya, she
is basically harmless.
Not interested in money? When she engages herself to Ranma and then
auctions his time to the other fiancees? When she sells pictures of his
girl form to every boy in school in the same story? When she runs a
betting pool in the anime and tries to fix the fight between Ranma and
Ryoga? When her only priority going out on a date is to extract the
most expensive meal possible, followed by getting a nice gift of some
expensive clothing, followed by blackmailing her hapless suitor with the
love letter he wrote her? When her response to learning that Akane is
going to be comatose for the next 5 or so months is to _sell_ Ranma a
cure she thinks won't work? When she comes up with a scheme to convince
Ukyo that Ranma and Akane are already married, then tells Ukyo the truth
when Ukyo bribes her, explaining, "I'm a slave to my greed"? This is
the Nabiki who isn't especially interested in money?
