"I'm home!"

Akane took off her shoes, looking perplexed. Where was everyone?

In the kitchen, she found a note on the counter:

"Father and Uncle Saotome are at a neighborhood watch meeting. I'm
visiting Dr. Tofu."

Akane grinned. Dr. Tofu was going to be helpless for the rest of the
day. Then she frowned.
Kasumi had promised to help her bake cookies after school. That meant
she'd have to try on her
own.

Akane reached up for the recipe book she'd bought, and pulled it off the
shelf. A small notebook
came down with it, and hit the floor. Akane picked up, opened it, and
sat on the floor, the
cookies quite forgotten.

"Hey Akane, why are you sitting on the floor?"

Akane motioned for her fianc to join her.

"Kasumi wrote a story, Ranma. Come read with me."

Ranma sat beside Akane, and holding the notebook between them, they
began to read.

                            My Fanfic
                                By

Once upon a time, in the land of Nerima, there were two very unusual
families, sharing the same
home.

There was a kind man, and his three daughters. The father was a good
man, but he was not very
strong. Any hint of adversity caused him to break down and weep, and
his daughters could not
depend on him for help or advice.

The eldest daughter appeared to be sweet and kind. She took care of the
members of her
household, seemingly without thought for herself, but inside she had
many ambitions. One day,
she would fulfill them.

The middle daughter was very beautiful, and very talented. She used
her talents to fill her
treasury, and to control others. Sometimes the eldest worried about
her.

The youngest daughter was the family's warrior. There was no challenge
she was unwilling to
meet, and she took pride in that. Her father hoped to join the two
families living in the house
though this daughter, but was losing hope that this would happen.

The members of that family were father and son. They had been victims
of a terrible curse, and
no one knew how to cure them. The father was cursed at times to become
a panda, and his son
became a woman. This latter curse, and the way the young man behaved,
had caused his fiancee
to reject him, although it was evident to the eldest that her sister was
in love. She also felt that
the young man loved his fiancee, but chose to hide it behind insults and
rejection.

The situation had become further complicated by the arrival of rivals
for the hands of both, and
Eldest Sister despaired, for she could think of no way to resolve the
situation.

Akane glanced up at Ranma. He was reading, his lower lip caught between
his teeth.

"Interesting, don't you think?"

"Umm, yeah, Akane. Interesting."

One lovely afternoon, the eldest sister was cleaning the house when she
saw a flash of light,
followed by the appearance of a lovely woman with strange marks on her
forehead.

"Who, who are you?"

"I am a goddess. My name is Urd. I have been watching you, and have
come to help"

"Oh my! I mean, thank you!"

"Please tell me where to start, for you have many problems."

Eldest Sister gave it some thought, and smiled.

"Can you please dispose of the rivals for my sister's hand, and her
fianc's?

"You want them dead! I am surprised at you!"

"No! I want you to make them lose interest."

The goddess smiled, and rose from the floor. Eldest Sister squeaked as
she rose with her, and
they flew across town.

Fifteen minutes later, she fanned herself, and took another sip of iced
tea.

"You're amazing, Urd! I never thought to make some of the matches you
did, but they worked!"

"Why not, dear? Gosunkuji and Shampoo look wonderful together."

"I was referring to Ukyo and Kuno. Who would have guessed?"

Urd nodded.

"What next? You must be quick, for I can only help you this afternoon,
and then you will never
see me again."

"My sister's fianc. Please, remove his curse, and his fathers."

Urd closed her eyes, and smiled.

"Done."

"Done? Just like that? Oh my! Next, please make my sister and her
fianc love one another."

"I can't do that."

"What! You're a goddess--why not?"

"They already do."

Akane dropped the book as if she had been burned.

"Why is she saying that!"

Ranma, for his part, was bright red.

"It, it's just a stupid story, Akane. Don't take it seriously."

"Then why are you blushing?"

"It's nothin'."

"Then let's finish it, already."

The goddess paused, waiting for the next request. When she received
none, Urd frowned.

"What about you? Don't you want anything for yourself?"

"I don't want to get it by magic. I want him to love me by himself."

"He does."

Eldest Sister felt herself flushing.

"Then why?"

"He's too shy. Would you like me to fix that?"

The response she got was an enthusiastic nod.

"It's done. Is there anything . . ."

Urd didn't finish her question, for Eldest Sister had flown from the
room, her apron fluttering to
the floor. Urd vanished, smiling.

Ranma turned the page, but the next was blank.

"I wonder what happened next. I didn't know your sister could write,
Akane."

Akane closed the book, and looked shyly at Ranma.

"I didn't either. It's cute, but a little too sweet for me. People's
problems don't get solved that
easily. I . . ."

"I what, Akane?"

"I wish they would", she whispered. Akane stood up, replaced the book
on the shelf, and ran
from the kitchen.

"Hey, Akane! Wait up!"

Ranma reached for the counter to pull himself up, and knocked over a
half-finished glass of iced
tea, which soaked him and the floor. Ranma got a paper towel to clean
up the mess, and it was
then that he looked at his hand. It was not the small, delicate hand of
a girl.

"No way", Ranma muttered. "I'm dreaming."

"Are you?"

Ranma turned. A beautiful woman was coming through the wall, smiling at
him.

"Ranma, do you want . ."

Akane stopped short as she entered the kitchen. Ranma was standing
there with one of the most
beautiful women she'd ever seen.

"Another one, Ranma? How DARE you!!"

"Akane, I "

Akane's mallet caused Ranma to cut his sentence short. He knelt on the
floor, rubbing the back
of his head. Akane gave him another glare, and then turned her
attention to the woman standing
in the kitchen.

"Perhaps I should introduce myself. My name is Belldandy, and I'm a
goddess."
