Oh dear, it seems that I've lost track of the original message and who came up
with this idea in first place, so I'll post to FFML in hopes that i'll reach

You know, the biggest problem about placing Evangelions back into 1940's would
be how to make it plausible- we didn't have capability and technology to make
walkers like EVAs (except for pathetic ones). Like others suggested, go with
alien technology.
Hoever, this still wouldn't make any distniction between a walker and an
Evangelion. I thought of an idea- why not allow these '40's Evas retain their
AT Fields, but make it EXTREMELY limited, like for example- they can sustain
the field for only 30 to 60 seconds before it collaspes, and you would need at
least 12 to 16 hours to recharge for next charge. That and make it fairly
weak- it wouldn't be capable of intercepting all forms of projectiles (Modern
EVAs could do that), because of our weak technological advancements. You could
make AT field strong enough to intercept anything that's inorganic (i.e.
bullets, bombs, etc), but not humans who could sneak through the barrier with
their armary which has been slightly modified enough to pass through the
barrier.
Or simplest suggestion would be to dumb down the strength of AT Field.
Whatever course you take, these suggestions would help you keep EVA theme in
your fanfic without sounding like just 'another mecha-retro fanfic' or
something like that. All these suggestions could be in accordance with WWII
technology, AND if you could find a way to supply them with plently of energy
source and adequate 'modifications' like making them biomechs or something
like that.

It's only a suggestion, of course...
I think this would make an interesting fanfic, provided that you do manage to
pull it off.
