In addition to Optimus Prime (Autobots, transform and roll out! ^_^), I
noticed an EVA, Escaflowne, and a Gundam (I think).  The Spider mech
sounded vaguely familiar but I'm not sure where it was from.

I'll second the part about this being an interesting story.  I've never
read Onna: Red Side either, but I really enjoyed this one.  And here I
never thought knowing more about Japanese sentai shows would come in
useful.  ^_^
