Hello again from all involved,
Things are a little better this time around, although Helen still has
big problems with her ISP. As predicted last time, things would improve
with further posts.
As for the four stories missed from last time they will be definitely be
included next time, now that the reading of back-episodes of stories is
done.
We greatly appreciate your indulgence and patience, and if you weren't
either, thanks for not writing. ^_^
Collectively,
Paul,
Helen,
Shunsuke

Title: Turn the Page Insert 3: No Need for 'Niichan!
Series: OMG/Tenchi Muyo!
Genre: Crossover/comedy
Author: Christopher 'God-Boy' Angel
Email: c_j_angel@hotmail.com
Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/~ca_godboy
Date Sent to FFML: June 14, 1998
Size: 80k
Summary:
In the Prologue for Turn the Page, it was revealed that the Oh! My
Brother! crew in that alternaverse knew the Tenchi Muyo: The One crew.
This story details their first meeting.
{Paul}
The annoying new character bites the dust! Actually, Christopher
Angel is
neither new nor annoying, most of the time, but he does come close to
death
at the hands of Ryoko. The reason WHY takes up a good deal of the
fic, and
it's nice to see "good" characters from two series fighting each
other, for
a change. Not nice, really, but definitely interesting. Some
interesting
intraseries development, which you don't often find in a crossover
fic.
However, a few of the developments seem contrived. Interesting, but
contrived... so I'll have to hold this to about 16 or 17 out of 20.

Title: "Urusei Megamisama!", Chapter Ten: "Traps and Stages"
Series: Ah! Megamisama! and Urusei Yatsura
Genre: Romantic Comedy (Epic Tragedy?)
Author: Henry J. Cobb

Date Sent to FFML: 22nd June 1998

Summary:
Skuld and Ataru make the social scene at the Mendos.
Later, Skuld falls into darkness.
{Paul}
O... kay. I suppose I should have started on the rest of the series,
but
this is nonetheless quite interesting. It seems to be a rather loose
fusion
of the two series... the lack of complete overlap indicates quite
plainly
that Mr. Cobb has a few ideas of his own and isn't following plots
verbatim.
I think. Nice cliffhanger at the end, also nice continuity throughout
and
amusing use of Skuld's little angel, as always. 18 of 20, handily.
{Shunsuke}
It's a little lacking on the action front (I mean violence, hentai!)
but what transpires makes sense. The characterizations are certainly
consistent with the originals. Just one question: if the little
angel is
part of Skuld and she senses what it does, why didn't she react to
Ataru
kissing the angel? Does that mean she's interested? <shudder>
(Could you imagine this series if Urd had answered the call? Could
you
imagine it if she'd been willing?! O_O)

Title: First Knight: A Beginning
Series: Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Ah! My Goddess, Tenchi Muyo!, Yu Yu
Hakusho, Darkstalkers, and Wheel of Time
Genre: Crossover
Author: Donny Cheng

Date Sent to FFML: June 19, 1998
Size: 68 k
Summary:
The story of how Ranma became First Knight to Neo-Queen Serenity.
This is the first arc of a story that will span from now onto that
'way in the future' I keep hinting about.
{Paul}
I just have to laugh, at times. Ranma is achieving a degree of
attracting
girls that only Masaki Tenchi could even HOPE to match. Wait,
Tenchi's girls
are involved in this too, aren't they? Oh dear.
Okay, most of this just seems way, way too improbable for its own
good.
Ranma's multitude of cousins seems to be just a TAD far-fetched, and
his
abrupt humility after he's protected Usagi... if THAT'S not OOC, I
don't
rightly know what is. And Ranma has to at least SEE a martial arts
technique
in action before he uses it...
It's an interesting story, but sometimes I feel it's only a partial
crossover, with assorted cameos and such, and parts of it are WAY too
out
there to believe... even for a crossover. 13 or 14 out of 20.

Title: The Sum of All Parts - Magenta : Maison Otonashi Chapter 1
Series: Evangelion / Tenchi Muyo! / Nuku-Nuku / Maison Ikkoku
Genre: meld/crossover/elseworlds
Author: TimeRunner
Email: keiichi@i-manila.com.ph
Homepage: www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/7482
Date Sent to FFML: June 4, 1998
Size: 25 Kb
Summary:
The Legacy of the Nanban Fragments changing four small events in the
lives of four people continue their legacy, in the time-shifted and
changed world of Maison Ikkoku.
See how much impact one averted death can take with the lives of
Kyoko, Godai, and the rest of the Maison Ikkoku cast.
Kyoko deals with disillusionment toward her (now living) husband,
Soichiro! Misato deals with overcoming a high alcohol tolerance!
Kentaro deals with boredom! Godai deals with his attraction with the
(now) married Kyoko, and gets a job offer he may well not refuse!
Plus: A minor fragment changes Son Gohan's life in unexpected and
totally useless ways! All in the Omake : The Sum of Spare Parts -
Yellow with Four Little Orange Stars!
{Shunsuke}
What is described as "small events" to me are major changes,
even when considering the Nanban mirror. I like the idea of
NGE's Misato playing the role of Akemi, and the possibility
of screwball violence entering the MI continuum is certainly
welcome, that series could use a little livening up.
It certainly is a good episode for setting the table, now
we wait to see if the servings are as tasty or as big as I
hope they are. (Excuse the food metaphor.)

Title: Happi Days (are here again)
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Comedy?
Author: Gregg Sharp
Email: Metroanime@aol.com
Homepage: http://members.aol.com/metroanime/main.html
Date Sent to FFML: 6/13/98
Size: 13 chapters averaging 13kb each
Summary:
"Happosai joined forces with some of Ranma's other enemies? Ranma's
out of town. What do you mean the entire school got hit with terrible
tragic Juusenkyo curse? Bishojo Bride? Spring Of Drowned Amazon
Warrior? All this and anime fans gone nuts, we'll see you there..."
{Paul}
*piku* *piku* *pfft* *pfft* BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Just the whole
premise is funny... and what happens certainly is. This story has
ALREADY
inspired spin-offs, it's just that novel and easy to build off.
Though I
imagine it wasn't nearly as funny for the people involved... but
still,
having Ryoga chased by marraige-hungry girls... *pfft* okay, one
hysterical
laugh is enough. A few grammar nits to pick here and there, but
nothing
major... 17 or 18 out of 20.
{Shunsuke}
Thoroughly enjoyable, although I would have preferred more focus on
the
main story instead of all the side stories. It would have been
funnier
if one of the few uncursed males actually *were* gay. Now, _that_
would have been interesting....

Title: Innocence Lost Moment 1, Possibility 1, Part 1
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Dark
Author: Lord Archive
Email: archive@mich.com
Homepage: www.mich.com/~archive/anime
Date Sent to FFML: 6 - 17
Size: 17K
Summary:
Shampoo drugs Akane into having sex with the nearest available guy,
who happens to be Kuno. Read something like that before? This is a
different from most of them as everything in this story is treated
seriously nature. The status quo will NOT remain unchanged, and
Shampoo will NOT go unpunished.
{Paul}
Oy. That was my reaction when I read the first part of this story.
Even
though "passion spice" isn't exactly canon, it's used here to perhaps
greater effect... and the punishment Shampoo gets for it is only
fitting.
Lord Archive and I share a view of Amazon law... rape is one of the
worst
possible crimes. Kuno is going to be several thousand times harder to
dissuade now...
Odd, how adversity seems to always bring Ranma and Akane together...
It's an interesting concept, 10 of 10 on the "what happens next"
scale,
and about 16 or 17 out of 20 overall.
{Shunsuke}
Quite a semi-dark fic, this. (I consider it that, anyway.) A lot
of problems can arise out of what happened in the first part, and
it makes me wonder what the author has in mind. It is certainly
worth
a look.
I didn't like the rush-job feeling at certain points, like the scene
in Akane's bedroom at the end; the emotions there could use a little
more fleshing out. As for Cologne, I don't know if this is how she
would handle the situation; I've seen fics that range from "angel
matriarch" (like this one) to "whatever it takes, preferably evil".
Her actions make sense on one level, but not on another.

Title: It Wasn't A Dream?! Part 1
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Alternate Timeline
Author: Lord Archive
Email: archive@mich.com
Homepage: www.mich.com/~archive/anime
Date Sent to FFML: 6 - 16
Size: 30K
Summary:
What if all the weirdness of Ranma's first day caused Akane to act a
little differently when she found out Ranma is a boy?
{Paul}
I can see this happening. Almost. *shudder* At times, the entire
series
seems to be some twisted nightmare, so I can see where Akane's
rational side
might just fly out the window. It's definitely going to be
interesting to
see what comes next... 17 or 18 of 20.
{Shunsuke}
This is a good YAAH fic, or a JOD (just one difference, as I call
them).
What were Akane and Ranma thinking? What is the author thinking?
For
some reason the battling bigmouths do something unexpected...having
sex
on the day they meet. And for some reason I liked this story and
want
to see more. It makes you wonder what the author has in mind for
them. O_o

Title: The Journal of Sanjuro Tanaka
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Humor, mostly
Author: Scott K. Jamison
Email: majks@cyberx.com
Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Flats/5990
Summary:
This is a side story to Gregg Sharp's "Happi Days" storyline, in which
Happosai douses the entire population of Fuurinkan High School with
Jyuusenkyo water...with mental effects. The "Journal" tells the story
of one student affected.
{Paul}
Oh dear. This may be funny, but it's a Ray Bradbury or Rod Serling
kind
of funny. There's a little bit of sadness and utter terror about it
that
just can't be shaken. However, it makes oodles upon oodles of valid
points
about the changing of one's sex and outlook on life, and it's
definitely a
scary thing to have to watch. 18 or 19 of 20.
{Shunsuke}
Half-way between "Curses" and "The Stepford Wives", this makes me
pity
and laugh at the characters at the same time, then hate myself for
doing
that. That's quite a feat.
I do have to question, though, how much of the personality of the
girl
from the spring takes over; sometimes it appears SKJAM plans a total
change, then backs off on that. That inconsistency is the story's
only
real flaw, I found.

Title: Misty
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Self-Insertion
Author: Mike Allen
Email: allenmk@gte.net
Date Sent to FFML: 06/19/98
Size: 12K
Summary:
As usual, a person receives a wish and it goes wrong.
{Paul}
Yes, but the usual consequences don't necessarily result. Kasumi as
time-share otaku host... nah. But it does have a refreshingly new
quality to
the genre of self-insertion, even if nothing more happens than the
insertion
and a bit of aftermath. As a prologue, it's at least a 17 out of
20...
however, the fic itself leaves a whole lot of unanswered questions,
so I'll
have to drop it to about 15 out of 20...
In other words, WRITE MORE!

Title: Nekoken is Out of the Bag! Chapter 11
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Continuation, Lemon
Author: Lord Archive
Email: archive@mich.com
Homepage: www.mich.com/~archive/anime
Date Sent to FFML: 6 - 16
Size: 18K
Summary:
Happosai returns to the Tendo home to exact 'revenge' on Ranma and
Akane.
{Paul}
*sigh* Ladies and gentlemen, what we have here is known as the
"forced
lemon". There's an aura of contrivance around most of the lemon
scenes in
this series in general, but the back plot makes up for it a bit...
although
I'm still wondering whether Nodoka was truly convinced of her son's
manliness... 5 of 10 on the Hentai Meter, 15 of 20 overall.

Title: Not a Chance, Part 1: Yoiko Harushi
Series: Ranma
Genre: New character
Author: DreAshaman
Email: DreAshaman@aol.com
Homepage: none
Date Sent to FFML: 6/18/98
Size: 26k
Summary:
Ranma has a typical morning and a new girl arrives at school.
{Paul}
Oh dear. This reminds me of a story by OneShot... forget the title,
but
Ranma heads off to a gym and promptly impresses the living daylights
out of
the local gym babes. Or something like that. One must needs feel
sorry for
the poor girl. "Not a Chance"? Read "The Least One Can Do" and you
tell me.
Interesting idea, nice execution, a little more dialogue than
description
but that's understandable. 16 or 17 out of 20.

Title: Ranma Monogatari Part 6 (parts 1-5 reposted)
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Historical fiction/mystery?
Author: Bridget Wilde
Email: wildeman@psn.net
Homepage: http://www.psn.net/~widleman
Date Sent to FFML: Wednesday
Size: ~40K
Summary:
Monogatari is a tale in which Ranma is cast back into the body of a
previous incarnation - in 11th century Japan - and has to save that
era's Akane. Based on Genji Monogatari and Torikaebaya Monogatari.
Part 6 *finally.* Ranma escapes from the prusuit of Yoshikichi and
participates in an exorcism.
{Paul}
*pfft* Okay, this one's both funny (RANMA in a land where everyone
talks
like Kuno, Happy as the old emperor, Doc Tofu as the new one...) and
touching (Ranma actually trying to work things out between himself
and the
Akane-clone) and suspenseful (Ranma ain't the powerhouse he used to
be) and
poetic ('cause it's got poetry in it). This is as interesting for the
setting as it is for the story itself, and the setting is masterfully
crafted... 19 or even 20 out of 20.
{Shunsuke}
Well well well...this retelling is getting more surprising by the
chapter.
I don't know whether I should watch "The Tale of Genji", or not to
avoid
spoilers.
The plot is clearly "solve other's problems to solve your own", but I
plan on sticking around for the next bit.
At least there's no Vogons anywhere in sight. ^_^

Title: Ruler of the Raging Main Part 5
Series: R1/2
Genre: Historical Fiction
Author: J. Austin Wilde
Email: wildeman@psn.net
Homepage: http://www.psn.net/~wildeman
Date Sent to FFML: 15 June 1998
Size: 63K
Summary:
The battle with the sea monster ends with Ranma receiving a curse that
will kill him within a year and a day.
{Paul}
I wondered when you'd finally get to the title... I'd just like to
say
right off that the whole time translation thing has left the cast
none the
worse for wear... except, of course, that Akane isn't quite so much a
tomboy
as she usually is. Perhaps the best moment in this whole story is
when the
Sea God says, quite simply, that Ranma is screwed either way.
Normally,
there's an out. At least the other water-based curse isn't going to
spread
to anyone else... and there's enough cliffhangers here (where are
Ukyo and
Shamps? For that matter, where are Ranma and Akane?) to last at least
a few
more chapters. Excellent descriptive, almost cinematic prose... I'd
say 19
or 20 out of 20.

Title: Shampoo 1/2 Chapter 29: Dating Procedures
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Alternate Universe
Author: D.B. Sommer
email: sommer@nb.net
homepage: http://www.geocities.com/~azatlan/Special-Series/shampoo.html
Summary:
A tale of the night when many couples, some more sure than others, go
out on dates. Such as Shampoo and Ranma. Kodachi and Mousse. Ukyou and
Ai. Akane and Tarou. Ryouga and Kyoko. Ryu and Akari.
{Paul}
Oh dear oh dear oh dear. The word "insanity" comes all too readily to
mind. And the odd thing is, it's not centered around Ranma for once.
Very
interesting how the dates are set up... also interesting is Ai's
little
revelation to Ukyo... I thought the spatula girl would be short a few
vital
organs when the night was over, but was pleasantly surprised. The
ED-209
makes a hilarious cameo. Great installment in a great series, dealing
with a
whole lot of incipient romantic triangles. 18 or 19 of 20.

Title: Sword and Sorcery, chapter 16
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Fantasy/Alternate
Author: D.Fire
Email: phongb9@idt.net
Homepage: http://idt.net/~phongb9/
Date Sent to FFML: 6/16/98
Size: 30k
Summary:
Uerris continues to battle their implacable enemy while Raeni works
from within, gathering information as best she can, meeting up with an
unexpected ally.
{Shunsuke}
Boy, does this bring back memories...late nights of junk food,
sitting around playing war games, being called a geek at school...
Some great descriptions of action and characterization of people
ten years on, and a plot that sometimes makes you question who's
on what side. My only comment to the author would don't worry so
much about following the D&D rulebooks, I'd rather have your
imagination make up the rules.

Title: An Uncertain End
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre:
Author: Lord Archive

Summary:

paragraphs. 9 of 10 on the short scale.

Bizarre is right. "Spring of Drowned Hobbit"? Ah well, I've seen

Title: Magic Knight Ranma Part IV
Series: Ranma 1/2 & Magic Knight Rayearth
Genre: Comedy/Fusion
Author: Magic Knight Kiyone
Email: jdlowry@eos.ncsu.edu

Date Sent to FFML: 6/18/98
Size: 39K
Summary:
In the fourth part of Magic Knight Ranma, Akane and Ukyou try to
restore Ranma to normal by hitting him on the head, and fail
miserably. The three of them are forced to deal with monsters,
hostile villagers, and Clef's apprentice, Alcione.
{Shunsuke}
I thought I'd have trouble with this fic since I've never seen
Magic Knights Rayearth...nope, the fic was funny and had a good
pacing. The new characters seemed malicious and interesting
(how much of it is because they already exist, I don't know).
What I didn't like was the author's interruptions in the story;
I know they were intended to be funny, but I found myself
distracted from the story by them. Could I ask you to leave
them out next time, s'il vous plait?

Title: Wild Boot Pt 3
Series: Ranma / Reboot
Genre: Fusion
Author: Rarstarr
Email: djfarr@ihug.co.nz
Homepage: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~djfarr/
Date Sent to FFML: 15 June 1998
Size: 19Kb
Summary:
While trying to apologise to Akane, Ranma meets a sprite with whom he
has a history. A romantic history. But before he can recover from the
meeting, the virals kidnap Akane and it's Ranma to the rescue.
{Paul}
This is... okay, the series is always nuts. The integration of
low-tech
Ranma into a high-tech world is also a constant source of amusement.
Almost
everyone is in the picture now, and I could see the stuff Rastarr
describes
happening were the series to cross. Shampoo and Ranma have a SLIGHTLY
different history... Mousse's new incarnation is nice, and the
explanation
for Shampoo's broken English is hysterical and true to the original
series,
in a sense. All in all... 18 out of 20, 20 of 20 for the whole
series.

Summary:
Software pirates under the command of the Black Binome invade
Mainframe, stealing data and ... women's panties? Ranma and Shampoo
are captured, so it's Akane, Nabiki and Frisket to the rescue.
{Paul}
Happi-chan! *shudder* A few REALLY STUPID jokes, including the
obligatory
South Park reference. And an interesting bit with Shampoo somewhat
controlling Ranma in Neko-ken. I wonder if the dog was damaged at
Jusenkyo,
too? Hmm...
Again, interesting fusion of the high-tech series with low-tech
Ranma.
And, of course, Kodachi finally shows up, with a slightly morphed
Midorigame
in tow. All in all... 17 of 20, simply because the humor seemed
beyond
forced. That may be how it is in Reboot, but it just seems wrong to
me.

Summary:
Shampoo chases after Lina, Ranma's caught in the middle and Cologne
makes an appearance.
Several scenes reworked.
{Paul}
Four chapters and they're not even OUT OF CHINA YET? Then again, the
curse and Ranma have some pretty impressive interplay, and the magic
and how
it works has also (I think) been fully explored, more or less. One
wonders
how Ranma will actually act when he gets back to Japan and meets
Akane...
having a girl like Lina Inverse riding in the back of his head is
likely to
disabuse him of all his ideas about the sexes... particularly when
her magic
can kick his martial artist butt. Genma is even more spineless than
usual,
but that's to be expected. A few tiny tweaks on the canon... Dill
Brando and
Mega Brunto require the tracing of a warding circle to explode
outward. I
think. I could be wrong. All in all, 16 or 17 out of 20.

Genre: Action/Suspense
Author: Bastion
Email: bastion@ix.netcom.com

Date Sent to FFML: June 17, 1998
Size: 25 KB
Summary:
Someone is attacking homeless shelters around Tokyo and the Sailor
Scouts go to confront the aggressor.
{Paul}
Okay, first of all... the test gets incredibly awkward in places.
Mismatched metaphors, repetition of names and pronouns where they
just
shouldn't be repeated... omitted words, variations in tense...
Second of all... continuity blurps. I'm fairly sure that Sailor Moon
uses
the Holy Grail (or whatever the jewel-encrusted chalice is) to
transform to
Super Sailor Moon, and that the henshin pens are replaced by slightly
more
complex devices for the "crystal power" transformations of the other
Senshi
(or, in this case, Scouts).
Third of all... interesting plot twists... I never would have
expected a
double agent who might turn triple agent or some such...
All in all, though, this story only gets a 12 or 13 out of 20 because
it's riddled with typos and the like... nothing a careful proofread
wouldn't
fix.

Title: A Quick Stop Before Eternity
Series: Tenchi Muyo/Nightmare Cafe
Genre: Eeriefic
Author: Trakal

Date Sent to FFML:Jun 15, 1998
Size: A page or so.
Summary:
Blackie & Co receive another guest at the All Night Cafe.
{Paul}
Nothing really all that eerie about this... but then, I'm none too
familiar with the series you crossed over. Perhaps a little more
explanation
for the purpose of this strange place... and a little more
explanation of
why this "Operative" stopped by this particular point in space-time.
But
then, this is a short fic, and explanations are never their forte. 8
of 10
on the short scale for a clean if confusing story.
That's all for now... and this is just what I think. What's YOUR
opinion?
