Maybe someone should post a list of the things that seem to be
taken for
 > granted as true and debunk them as either fanfic convention, anime
vs
 > manga conflict, fanfic writer has too much testosterone at the
moment...

Here I go, contributing to the spam. Hoh-boy, do I really need that
caffine right now.

Nabiki doing any sort of adult business activity such as playing in
the
stock
market. It's certainly possible, and maybe even suggested by the
Kinnosuke
story, but most people who use it just got it from another fanfic.

Depends on what else you define as 'adult business activities.' Does
gambling count? (see Gambling King story)

Actually, no. There are numerous subtle hints in both the anime and
manga that
Nabiki handles a LOT of the families affairs: She planned a great deal
of
Ranma and Akanes aborted wedding, and Soun/Genma probably wouldn't have
trusted that to just anyone.

Yes, yes, and we know just how well the wedding did, eh? Money sold
them out.

 Shampoo constantly drugging food.

There's precedent in both the anime and mangs for this; the fanfic
convention
is the KIND of drug used, specifically Passion Spice. A LOT of people
think
that PS is a part of the actual story, but it's not.

I have no idea what Passion Spice is. And that's probably a Good Thing
(TM) from what I've heard of it.
And shouldn't we be more concerned about the overuse of Kodachi
drugging food/having her Acme junior chemist kit?

Ranma's mother as intelligent and perceptive.

This is an opinion statement; I personally think she's very perceptive.
She

Well, she's obviously NOT stupid, you gotta admit.

suspected the Ranko/Ranma connection LONG before it actually came out
(kinda
like a Lois Lane/Clark Kent/ Superman thing going on) and actively
tried to
catch them in the lie.

True. With rather humerous results, too.

Evere see the scene where she clonks 'Ranko' on the head with a
teakettle
because she thinks that'll turn her to Ranma? It's hilarious.

  LOL

Ryouga constantly getting lost in Australia, India, New York, the
planet
 Mars, alternate dimensions, etc.

I pointed this out about a two months ago. People insulted my
intelligence and
said I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. It was very
demeaning.

Hail, fanfic drinking contest! Three drinks for each and every exotic
location outside Japan that Ryoga turns up in.

Mousse having to beat Ranma to get Shampoo's hand. Or having to
beat
Shampoo. Or variations with other Amazons and non-outsider males.

Dramatic liscence here. The rules of the Amazon tribe are never very
clearly
spelled out beyond what happens to male and female outsiders, so you
can go
nuts with your own interpretation.

It's a strict/loose interpretation kind of thing.

Bah, Mousse wants to beat up Ranma because Ranma has Shampoo's heart,
nothing more. Nowhere does it imply that Mousse has to beat up anybody
to marry Shampoo. He ASKS Shampoo for marriage; isn't that enough
evidence for you (loose 'you') about what's going on? If it's obvious
that Shampoo loves Ranma, getting rid of Ranma is just the next step up
the ladder to Mousse's eyes (bad pun).

also just 'villains of the week.' Plus, there's precedent; Tsubasa
shows up in
the "Nerimean Parade" that occurs in the first movie.

Although that's not the BEST example, since EVERYBODY showed in that
scene.

Actually, that's one of the worst examples; it's the same type of
example as by citing the Tendo Christmas party OAV as evidence (please
don't make me laugh my spleen away!).
Most people only accept manga appearances (and I might be one of them)
as fact-- ie, the Bakeneko shows up in two different manga stories, and
can be called 'recurring,' depending on your definition.

Cursed people not aging in cursed form. (Re: Tarou)

How in the world did Taro get into this?

Tneshin Amaguriken as an attack: appears in anime, not in manga.

This is just flat-out wrong. The Chestnut Fist isn't grossly overused
in the
manga, like it is in the anime (sometimes it seems like he's using it
every
other episode) but he DOES use it. The fight with Ryoga right after he
learned
Bakusai Tenketsu, for example.

And, if I'm not mistaken, that was the ONLY time Ranma used it (rather
'abstract' use, as it was) in any form whatsoever as an attack. One
could easily argue either way on that point-- training technique, or
attack?

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it."--JMS, creator of Babylon 5.
"If you go to Z'ha'dum, you will die."--Kosh, Babylon 5.
"Jump. Jump now!"--Kosh, Babylon 5, making some sense.
