Hm. Are you *quite* sure it was a rip-off, rather than, say... a
tribute? Besides, the episode was written by William Gibson, the man
who *created* the cyberpunk genre with his break-through novel,
_Neuromancer_. If anything, BGC owes the very aspects that you claim
X-Files "ripped off" -- if not its very existance -- to that man. So
chill out, dude.

Okay, so last night, I sit down on my bed with my dinner looking
forward
to a nice quiet evening of vegging out in front of the tube. Instead
I spend
an hour being somewhat outraged by the work of hacks.

For those of you who don't know, last nights (Friday 8 May) episode
of the X-
Files dredged up the classic 'evil AI' plot that sci-fi shows are
obligated to
do every once in a while. I was actually looking forward to it.

The salient plot points featured:

1) An evil, all-knowing AI who had access to the governments
particle-beam
satelites. (Hmmmm......)

2) A female protaganist who wore a lot of leather, was very angry,
and wanted
revenge.

3) At one point, the machine fuses- er, bonds to Agent Mulder.

4) People download their brains into computers.

<ahem> HELLO?!? EARTH TO MORONS!!!!!!!

I mean, come ON! The BGC inferences were SO obvious. What, did the
writers
just somehow assume that all BGC fans would magically chose that
night to
become completely oblivious?

Let's just examine the magnitude of the rip-offness:

1) Largo. LargoLargoLargo. 'Nuff said.

2) Priss. Though she had more computer skills...

3) Fusion Boomers. (Especially that scene with Jeena in the ADP
Manga...)

4) Mason/ Largo.

As an writer, this rather upsets me. If any of US were to write
something that
was so transparently a rip-off and bill it as original work, we
would be
flamed into the next millenium.

Though I gotta admit, that episode would have made a good fanfiction
crossover... but only billed AS a crossover, not an original.

There. I've said my bit. I feel better.
