A YU YU HAKUSHO FANFIC BY W. SIEW LEE

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was misty all around or is there something wrong with her eyes? Misuko
had found herself in a scene with Koenma's face only millimeters away from
her's. His lips was so near to her mouth.

"Gods! How did I know his name was Koenma?" thought Misuko in shock.

Koenma smiled at her and reached forward. His mouth covered Misuko's in a
kiss. Misuko raised up her hand to push him a away; but the kiss was so
sweet that she almost wanted it to continue. Suddenly, a drop of tear fell
down from Misuko's eyes. Koenma gently pulled away from her.

"Misuko, you had finally remembered me after all." said Koenma emotionally,
his arms still hugging her.

*Huh? What is he talking about? Why I'm crying of all sudden?* asked Misuko
towards herself silently, reaching up a hand to wipe away the tear streak.

"Is your name Koenma?" Misuko had gathered all her courage to say that.

"Yes, I'm your lover before you were reincarnated to Ningenkai. I had once
promised you that I will wait for you eternally, through nine lives. For
ever and ever." answered Koenma softly. Slowly, he led Misuko into a
passionate kiss. Misuko followed him by returning his kiss.

*Ningenkai! What reincarnated?* Misuko couldn't grasp the slightest meaning
in it but she wouldn't let it interrupt this wonderful moment. His lips were
so nice to kiss... Well, she could ask Koenma later about the it.

*I had never kissed before but I had a feeling that Koenma seem to have very
nice lips to kiss.* thought Misuko, her face turning into a slight
shade of pink. *Is this a dream? If this is a dream, then it must be a very
good one.*

Uncountable sensations rushed through her whole body, totally pleasing to
her whole body. Misuko was in the midst of enjoying herself when a strange
force, seemingly evil tugged at her. At first, it was just only a slight
pull, barely recognizable. As time passed by, the power of it's pull got
stronger every second. She tried to resist, but it's won't permit her to do
so. That force was simply to large, or was it her imagination? A voice spoke
in her head; not clear, but she could understand it, word by word.

"Misuko, come with us... come with us..."

Misuko wasn't sure that Koenma heard that too. It was some kind of
telepathic field that was transmitted to her. She just can't push away the
temptation that took place in her mind. A very strong temptation. Her feet
just carried her towards another direction.

"The voice... it is controlling me!" Misuko tried to ignore the voice but
she couldn't. The manipulating effect was too much.

"Help!!!" she screamed, but Koenma still couldn't feel her distress. She
began to yell louder, but no voice, nothing, came out of her throat. She
could feel herself been dragged furthur and furthur. Misuko struggled again,
but with no avail.

In desperation, she mouthed the words 'Help' towards Koenma's direction,
hoping that he would comprehend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Owwwwwwww.........* Misuko groaned to herself. Her head hurt. She opened
both of her eyes and saw that she was dressed in a dark blue kimono. The
fabric was quite rough and painful to her skin. She unconsciously twitched a
little when the cloth scratched her skin. When she tried to lift her hands
to rub her eyes, she found that she was chained to a chair with invisible
bonds. She struggled again. She opened her eyes and looked closely. She saw
nothing over her wrists; but when she tried to get up again, her whole body
felt as heavy as lead.

Misuko struggled to free herself. She looked around in shock. Her head still
ached and stars swam around in front of her eyes. She shook her head a few
times and realized that she was sitting in the middle of a large room.

The room was lavished decorated, with lush thick red carpet and glided
ornaments hanged around; or was it just an illusion? Watercolor paintings of
flowers and strange looking images of light was hanged on every wall.
Beautiful chandeliers were suspended from the ceiling and multi-colored
lights shone on Misuko. There was two beings that didn't look human, they
looked more like toushins and youkais that she had seen on TV. They were
sitting on a lounge chair with strange clothes.

The one sitting on the right introduced himself first as Yamaro. He was
handsome terms of features and had a head of waist length dark brown hair.
He was dressed in a round collared shirt with buttons running down to his
side and a pair of matching trousers. The smile on his face was well,
a wise smile.

Another fellow who was sitting on the left introduced himself as Murashi and
he had a voice similar to those of a female's. In fact, he even looked
feminine himself. The only traces of male in him is that he was wearing man
clothes with matched him perfectly and his' name were those of a male. He
wore a black vest-coat over a white shirt and the trousers were also black.
Murashi was playing with a burst of white hot fire in his palms. The smile
on Murashi's face was very different from Yamaro's. His' was the cunning
type of smile.

In between her and them, there was a crystal ball mounted on a stand carved
from light green jade. Colors of all imaginable were swirling without
control in the crystal, thus making it impossible to see clearly. Clouds of
mixed colors obscured the view that it was trying to hide behind.

"What... what do you want?" stammered Misuko, her skin felt a little clammy.

"Misuko, you are now held captive in our castle, the 'Hotaro' or you should
say 'prison'. We will help you to remember and recall your past in Reikai.
Nice and wonderful memories of your staying period in Reikai more than a
century before." said Yamaro steadily.

"What past? Where is Reikai?" asked Misuko, her eyebrows knitted together in
pure confusion.

"The past you had in Reikai, the spiritual world, as a ferry girl there.
Look. Just look at the crystal and you'll understand." Yamaro then
concentrated for a moment and images began to form within the crystal.

The colors parted and solified. Like a movie, a story unfolded itself before
Misuko's eyes.

First scene --- A girl was begging with the King of Wei. The journey to the
capital of Shu. The plot behind the peace offer. The Crowned Prince with his
trickery. The slaying of the Crowned Prince. Her decision to commit suicide.

The scene before her contorted and swirled into a mass of colors. Slowly,
another scene formed from the mass of swirling colors. Misuko shut her eyes
momentarily; the crystal had a strange effect on her. The scenes were so
terrifying real, she could feel the terror and dark emotions it contained.

Second scene --- Misuko was floating in the mid-air. Hanna, her very first
friend, led her to Reikai. Her confused feelings over Ninegankai and
reincarnation. Her decision as a ferrygirl. Her leisure time spent sitting
in the Imperial garden. Her fantasies with Koenma. Confessions and
reminiscences of nights. The bloodstone pendant... The tragic ending...

"What would he think, after I slapped him?" thought Misuko silently.

Through the crystal, she had also seen her own tragic story ended with her
death. As the images ended, Misuko could feel tears rolling down her cheeks.
The story was touching, like something straight out of a movie. *Is this
really my past?* asked Misuko softly.

The third scene soon followed.

Third scene --- The rebirth of a ill-fated ferrygirl. The normal life she
led as any other schoolgirl would live. The morning in the ramen shop.
The guy who walked up and hugged her suddenly... Her capture...

The whole episode lasted for quite a long time. At last, Misuko felt more
tears welling up in her eyes.

Yamaro stood up and asked her, "Do you understand now? Actually, both of us
were chained and locked up here by the bonds of Justice one thousand years
ago. Only the great Divinity, that is the son of Enma-Daiou, could free us."

Misuko just sat there, speechless. At last, she yelled, "I know what you're
up to; you're going to blackmail Koenma into freeing you in exchange for
me. I'm telling this first, you are not using me to trap his sincerity for
something evil and if you want me to help, over my dead body!"

"Well, it isn't up to you whether you want to help or not. We'll do all the
work; and remember, you're just a pawn in our hands. We are showing you all
these for your memory, so that you will be awaken by these thoughts for your
rest of your life; anyway, I'm going to kill Koenma and friends after he
freed me. Besides, I don't want you to miss that. Hopefully, that scene will
haunt you forever. Meanwhile, let's get ready a message for your dearest
Koenma." Yamaro laughed coldly and walked out of the room with Murashi
following closely behind. Just before he left, he extinguished the lights in
the room, leaving poor Misuko in the dark.

The voice during her meeting with Koenma in that place she called dreams
came again. This time, it was loud and clear. Words by words. It was coaxing
her to cooperate with Yamaro and Murashi. Misuko was drifting with the voice
when she forced herself not to listen to it.

"It is one of the enemy's manipulative skills. I mustn't be cheated by it."
Misuko told herself. It had taken all her self-restrain and strength to
ignore it. As time passed by, the voice slowly faded.

Misuko was left to sit there all by herself. The temperature was chilling
here and the room itself was very silent. All together too silent. Hot tears
streamed down from her eyes. She had never felt this helpless before in her
entire life. An idea came to her. She remembered seeing that crystal show
that how much Koenma had loved her. According to some myths, people could
feel their closest friends and relatives in danger, even they were few
thousand miles away; in this case, a world away. It's the time to prove this
theory true or not. Misuko closed her eyes and called from her heart for
Koenma.

"Koenma, Koenma, I'm Misuko. I'm captured by Yamaro and Murashi;
I'm trapped here in Makai in their castle, which they called the 'Hotaro'.
They are going to send a blackmail message to you not long. Yamaro seems to
have thought manipulating skills; while Murashi have the element of fire...
Please, Koenma, come and rescue me quick..."

After calling for him a few time, Misuko found herself overwhelmed with
fatigue and she fell into a restless sleep on that chair.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Misuko!" Koenma woke up sometime near dawn. He was panting and sweating all
over his head and chest. Beads of sweat rolled down, soaking his blanket.
His brown hair was matted and dripping with perspiration.

It had been a bad dream. Dreaming wasn't frequent to him. Nightmares was
even rarer. Dreaming Misuko snatched away from him in suddenly. It was very
abrupt. But before went, she seemed to try to say something, but he couldn't
get the head or tail of it. Her mouth movements are simply too fast and she
faded too quickly. Koenma thought for a moment in silence but at last he
dismissed it as maybe he was missing Misuko too much.

"What's the use of dreaming about her while she might be dreaming about some
other guy?" said Koenma bitterly to himself. He draw his legs up close to
chest and wrapped his arms around them. His heart growing more and more
sorrow with every second that ticked by.

He had been lonely. Since Misuko's death, he had never fully recovered. It
had affected him more than he expected. Slowly, he went back to sleep.

*I need all the energy to find Misuko.*

Seconds ticked by and Koenma was deep in a restless sleep again. Or was it
an agonizing sleep?

A voice was saying in the distance. Soft, but pulsing with angiush, a plea
for help...

"Koenma, Koenma, I'm Misuko. I'm captured by Yamaro and Murashi;
I'm trapped here in Makai in their castle, which they called the 'Hotaro'.
They are going to send a blackmail message to you not long. Yamaro seems to
have thought manipulating skills. Please, Koenma, come and rescue me
quick..."

Unclear, but Koenma could feel what was it trying to saying...

"Arggghhhhh! No.......! Misuko.......! screamed Koenma, thus waking himself
up in the process. It was nearly daylight now and he was sure that it wasn't
a dream anymore. It was reality, a sign of distress.

Koenma quickly dressed and hurried out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genkai and the rest were eating tidbits in the hall. They were chatting
happily about life and guys were making joking, listening to the girls
scream in laughter. Botan and Hiei were exchanging odd glances at each
other. Genkai noticed it but she didn't say anything. She smiled a knowing
smile to herself. The atmosphere was totally cheerful. Genkai's temple had
never been this joyous for a long time.

In the midst of this scene, a figure dashed into the room. Everybody turned
their heads around in shock and saw it was Koenma, his hair dripping with
perspiration.

"Yusuke, we are going to Makai now!" yelled a nearly hysterical Koenma.

"Cool down, Koenma, tell us what had happened." said Yusuke.

"Misuko's in trouble. Ningenkai and Reikai are in trouble. You, me and
everybody here are in trouble. Yamaro and Murashi are trying to free
themselves." rushed Koenma excitedly.

"Relax... I thought you're pretty far from your office to know such
details." interrupted Kuwabara, chewing away on a piece of butter cookie.

"Misuko gave me a dream on this. She told me that they are going to send me
a ransom message soon. Her anguish and sorrow were so real that I could
nearly feel it myself. It was... simply undeniable..."

"I thought she had never knew you in this life?" said Yusuke, his mouth
stopped chewing to listen to Koenma.

"Look, I don't know all right? But she had given me that dream and it's true
that if someone you cared about is in danger, you will feel it too." said
Koenma fervently, his voice cracking a little.

"Okay, we know. Try describing her situation." said Kurama from the
edge of the crowd, trying to get a word in.

"Well, em... actually she came to me and... " Koenma said haltingly as he
didn't want to tell the details in front of so many people. At this point,
his face turned into fiery red.

Just as he was about to finish that uncompleted sentence, a dart whizzed
past his head, missing only centimeters. It flew and stuck on the wall
opposite the entrance of the hall. Genkai stood up and went to inspect the
dart. Calmly, she plucked it out.

The shape of this dart was strange, something like mini arrows but
flanked with minute frills from the edges. The design was strange enough,
but the owner of this dart was even stranger. Genkai looked at it and saw
that the dart wasn't thrown from a short distance, but in fact it was
'flown' from a very far place, guided by the youki of the owner. Yes, youki.

"This dart belongs to a strong and experienced user of youki. The youki is
not very strong but still, it could manipulate the dart to fly such a long
distance without missing the intended target." explained Genkai.

Genkai held the dart and broke it open. True enough, there was a message
attached to it and she unfolded it.

"Now, we have Misuko on our hands and we understand
that she had some past relations with Son of Enma-
Daiou. The Son of Enma-Daiou had the power to free
us so we request him him to do so or else Misuko's
		 life shall end here.

						        Yamaro and Murashi,
       						        Guardians of Hotaro"

Genkai read aloud that message and everybody in the hall gasped. Koenma sat
there on the floor, close to tears by Misuko's safety. Couldn't believe that
as soon as he knew that she was alive and he was losing her once again.

"I could feel the power getting stronger now and I afraid they might break
out even without Koenma-sama's help. Who are they actually?" asked Genkai.

"Yamaro and Murashi. They were two criminals that had strange powers and
they were once arrested by my otousama after using a huge amount of his
power. Otousama had even used the sacred treasure of Reikai 'Bonds Of
Justice' to keep them from invading Reikai and Ningenkai about 1000 years
ago. Currently, they are imprisoned in an ancient castle in Makai. The
walls, as I told Yusuke, was youki-prove. Few hundred years back, otousama
had empowered only me to free them or no one else could do that anymore, not
even Enma-Daiou." said Koenma narrating a story that he had heard many times
over.

"Koenma, do you have any idea that how powerful are they?"

"I think they were about S-class when they were captured. After 1000 years,
their energy could simply be at least 3 times those of a S-class youkai."

"We are not afraid. Just get us to Makai and we'll do the dirty work for
you. Are we friends?" Yusuke slapped a hand over Koenma's back.

"Let's go to Makai!" shouted Kurama enthusiastically, bringing up
everybody's fighting spirit.

"I'm going." said Botan. Inside her mind, she was thinking that Hiei will
protect her at all cost. "He might, after all." thought Botan silently.

"I'm going too." said Yukina.

"No! Yukina, you are not going. Don't you know that Makai is a very
dangerous place?" objected Kuwabara.

"Kuwa-chan, don't worry. Over the years since I had been freed out of that
evil man, I had perfected my Koorime skills of killing and defending myself
with ice and snow." assured Yukina. She demonstrated by blowing a film of
ice over a flower in a vase nearby. When she touched it, the flower
splintered into hundreds of pieces.

Kuwabara sighed dramatically, and answered: "Yukina, I don't think I might
be able to save you like a knight in shining armor..."

The rest who were listening face faulted as Kuwabara put out a hand like
Romeo in a Shakespearean drama. Yukina grinned happily as she playfully took
Kuwabara's hand and stroked it. Yusuke and friends filled out of the room,
heading for Makai.
