Yeah, as much as I hate to admit (because I find this the most implausible
part of BGC SI fics), you don't have a story if the KS don't "adopt" the
insertee almost immediately (unless the insertee is going to be an outsider
-- and if that happens, what's the point of writing an insertion fic?)

Well, the way I did it was to not use _strictly_ a self insert
character.. (an RPG character) so he didn't _know_ who the KS were and
then gradually get him involved with Linna as Linna (as the only KS with
anything resembling a _Life_) and let things procede from there.

Doesn't always have to be that way.. in my second Quest story, I have
nothing to do with the Sabers for nearly 250K of story. I don't even face them
(without a mask) until the last 10 pages of the 300K story.

Odd.. I always seem to be running away from people in my SI fics. After
the recent deaths and accidents over the past 18 months, I suppose a shrink
would call this 'highly indicative'. <shrug>

But it IS possible to write a BGC self-insert and NOT be immediately
accepted by the KS. In fact there are several good ones out there. And even
those where the people are accepted can be well written. Zone comes to mind.
(HI, BERT!) So does Gyphon and Megazone's 'Hopelessly Lost' series.

It just takes hard work. That's all.

Well, it's off to StarFest '98 for me. Starts this friday, at 6pm, ends
Sunday, 6pm. I'll be taking the laptop, so the list (if Tybalt doesn't
mind) will
get a brief report about what it's like to meet ST:Voyager's Seven of Nine,
and
Vir Cotto from B5, and Dr Bashir. The StarFest Anime room has promised a 48
hour
Godzilla-thon in honor of the upcoming movie. They've even gotten some
copies of
the UN-dubbed versions. ^_^ Raymond Burr speaking Japanese. I'll _have_ to
see
that.

Well, I'm off to bed. Y'all take care, and if anyone needs something I
can get there at the con, email me. I'll be checking my mail each morning, and
each evening.

	Ed Becerra.
