**For starters, I want to apologize for my part
in this mess. There's also a fwd copy of
Libby's message that she sent to me because her
webmail hiccupped.
Think on this: while lots of people have stuff
that'll
instantly read the above mentioned formats,
others
don't.
**And others could care less about it, having
placed theirs in HTML format or others. Still
others have put several fics out on this list in
.rtf.
At least, not immediately.
The advantage of .txt format is that it's
immediate. There
it is, ready to read.
Most importantly, it's >>>>universal<<<<.
Personally, if a fic sent through the ffml is in
some odd format
or encoding, I'm not going to bother. And I
can guarantee you
I'm not the only one.
**True, and for the most part, you can include
me in that.
Don't forget, the most important thing in a
story isn't
the formatting, or the neat new technology
that it's
packaged in, but the content.
Shakespeare's plays aren't classics because he
used
incredible new printing technology or the latest
in durable paper.
**Actually he did use the latest tech in
both...but only because everyone else had the
same : quill and scrolls. ^_^
Just my opinion, but please do stick with .txt
format.
Besides, the ffml FAQ says so.
At one time, I had also considered issuing the
TOS stories in several formats. This changed,
as there are several logistical and technical
issues that you need to take into account. One
thing that I can reccomend that is a good
example of a site that does it many ways is the
A!MS Growing Pains site at
http://athena.asms.state.k12.al.us/~mlyohe/growingpains.html
They offer several formats for their stories.
I prefer the .txt format for reading, though I
do all my writing in .doc (MSW 6.0 or 97)
format, and I save copies of those works.
Someday, I intend to have multi-formats
available for anyone who wishes it. But my FFML
and RAAC versions will always be in .txt, where
those who prefer it that way, can get it that way.
I reccomend the same, Libby.
Now, I apologize for the spam, and ask that this
goes back to private mail, lest it become a
bannable thread. If you need to comment, send
it to her, or to me and I'll get it to her.
