Shoki Saga
Chapter Six
Blue Eyes Vs. Blue Thunder

Shoki was very tired the morning following his 'reunioun' with
Shayla Smith. He managed to perk up for his morning training session with
Mr. Tendo, but as soon as everyone sat down for breakfast he lost his head
of steam.
"What happened to your little friend last night, Shoki?" Kasumi
asked over her exquisitely prepared meal.
"Huh?" Shoki looked up startled. "Uh, well, I asked her to leave
and told her I'd be training here. I also asked her not to cause anyone
any problems. She said that she was going to be gone for a couple weeks or
so as she had to take care of some buisness elsewhere."
Akane was a bit more direct with her questioning. "Did you really
ask her to marry you?"
	"Sorta."
"What do you mean, sorta?" Snapped Nabiki.
"I was just joking! We were on the net and I was using an
anonymous account. I still don't understand how she managed to trace me
down!" A headache began to build in the back of the young man's head.
"You shouldn't play with a girls feelings like that!" Blazed
Akane, literally as she began taking on that blue glow she had when she was
mad at her fiancee.
Beside Shoki, Ranma murmured "Uh, oh!" just as the dam broke.
"SHOKI NO BAKA!" A giant mallet appeared in Akane's hands and she
raised it high above her head. Her father and Kasumi tried to calm her
down, Nabiki urged her on, Genma ignored it all, except to start stealing
food from everybody's plates, Ranma grimaced and looked at Shoki in
sympathy. Shoki, also knowing what was coming, closed his eyes and waited.
A loud crunch startled Shoki, but there was no pain. Slowly he
opened one eye and peaked out. Was he dead? Then he saw that the mallet
was on top of Ranma's head. Opening both eyes, he stared at Ranma, then
Akane.
Ranma found his vocal chords before Shoki. "What did you do that
for, you over-violent tomboy?!?!" Yelled Ranma.
"Sorry, force of habit. You deserve that anyways for calling me a
tomboy!" Raising the mallet again, Akane took aim at Shoki's head.
Deciding waiting to be malleted once was enough, Shoki scrambled backwards
and out of the way as the hammer crashed down on his cushion. The force of
the blow was enough to lift the laden breakfast table half a meter off of
the floor. It also knocked Shoki's cold milk over onto Ranma, who
instantly turned into his girl form.
Before Akane could try another blow, and before Ranma could get
into the fracas, a figure appeared in the open doorway. The figure was was
tall and dressed in a blue and black kendo outfit. In it's right hand was
a bokken, and in it's left was two bouquets of roses.
"Greetings. It is I, the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High School,
Tatewaki Kuno. I have come this morn to present these tokens of my
affection to both the pig-tailed girl and Akane Tendo!	They are so lovely
that I would date with them both!"
Akane broke her attack on Shoki to look at Kuno with exasperation
plain on her face. It seemed like all the men she knew were either
spineless, calous jerks, perverts, or just plain stupid.
Ranma also paused to roll her eyes at Kuno. 'Here we go again!'
she thought.
Shoki went rigidly still at the sound of Kuno's voice. A strange
look came over his eyes, but only Nabiki noticed as everyone else was
watching Kuno's grand entrance. Suddenly he relaxed and reached beside him
where he had left his own bokken when he had arrived that morning.
Grasping it's hilt tightly he rose and turned to face Kuno.
"Hello Tatewaki. Long time, no see." Shoki's voice was deadflat calm.
"Shoki! You disgraceful cur! What are you doing in the home of
the fair Akane Tendo and the Pig-tailed girl?"
"I train here Kuno. I learned all you had to offer, and had to go
elsewhere to seek more of a challenge." Everyone, even Kasumi sucked in
their breath at that. Kuno was dangerously unstable at the best of times.
Goading him like that was sure to cause an attack. It was obvious to
everyone that that was precisely Shoki's goal as he brought his bokken to
the ready.
Kuno turned red at this and flung the boquets of roses aside. "You
are even more insolent than the foul sorcerer Saotome! I shall smite
thee!" With that Kuno lunged forward in a sweeping diagnal blow. To
Ranma's eye he seemed faster than usual, as if he was putting everything
into this fight.
"You'll try!" Shoki screamed and raised his own weapon to block.
The crack of the two bokkens coming together sounded like a gunshot.
Reversing, Shoki tried a slashing blow at Kuno's midsection. Though he
missed, Kuno was forced to step back to avoid the blow, knocking over a
lampstand in the process.
Kuno swung again at his adversary. Shoki blocked, feinted left and
went for a stab. The blow connected with Kuno's ribs, but he merely
grunted and hit Shoki's side with another slashing blow. Both combatants
stopped and looked at each other for a moment. Slowly they began to circle
clockwise, looking for a weak spot. Suddenly, they came together with
another resounding crack and the battle was joined in earnest.
As the long bokkens slashed, stabbed, and parried, the living room
of the Tendo home began to look like a warzone. Kasumi, Nabiki and Akane
were sheltered behind the table which was turned on it's side. Soun
cowered behind Genma who was unconsious (from a stray blow of Kuno's) and
in panda form. Ranma tried to get in to break the two up (or at least get
them out of the house) but was forced back time and again. Finally she
just backed up and watched, as the speed of the fight was the fastest she
had ever seen in Kendo. Besides, for once Kuno could pay the bill for
wrecking the house.
After nearly ten minutes of fast and furious blow trading, both
Kuno and Shoki were bloodied and bruised. Neither had managed to gain the
upperhand for more than a few seconds. Shoki was glad that his recent
sparring with Nodoka had given him a few new moves. It had proven to be a
real life saver as he wasn't quite as good as Kuno, though he was faster
thanks to his training with Ranma. Once again they paused to consider each
other and began to circle (counter clockwise this time, almost as if
unwinding).
At the same moment, both Shoki and Kuno attacked, their wooden
swords coming together. Each tried to over-power the other, their swords
crossed and sweat breaking out on their foreheads. Just as each had
decided to back off, a silver flash came down through the practice swords.
Both young men fell towards each other as their swords were destroyed.
Just as they impacted each other, Shoki pushed Kuno away and fell
backwards. Both landed on their rumps and looked up to see what had
stopped the fight.
Above them Nodoka Saotome stood with her Katana held before her.
She looked imperiously at Shoki and Tatewaki. "There had better be a very
good explanation as to why you two are fighting in the house!"

**********

A few hours later the living room of the Tendo household looked a
lot less like a battlezone. Nabiki was sitting on a cushion, calmly
calculating how much it would cost to rebuild. Kasumi was busy cleaning,
and Soun, Akane, Ranma (who everybody called Ranko with his mother there),
Shoki and Nodoka were sitting together near the remains of the table. Mr
Panda sat in the corner munching some bamboo.
Kuno had left an hour earlier, after agreeing to pay for the
damage. This had nearly set off another fight as both Shoki and Kuno had
insisted on paying. Nodoka shut them both up, and Nabiki declared that
they both should pay the full amount simply for the trauma inflicted on the
innocent (and not so innocent) bystanders.
"Shoki!" Began Nodoka, "you should be ashamed of yourself. I
would have expected something of this nature had someone like my husband
been involved, but you?"
"I'm sorry Mrs. Saotome. My fued with Kuno kind caused me to lose
my head."
Just then Nabiki chuckled and spoke. "Don't worry about it Shoki.
If both you and Kuno are going to pay the full price of damages, you can
fight inside any time you want to!"
	"NABIKI!" Chourused five voices.

********

That evening's sunset was a carbon copy of the night before. Shoki
again helped Kasumi, and this time Nodoka, clean up after dinner. When he
was done he found Nabiki out on the porch again.
	"Umm, Nabiki?" He stammered.
Nabiki turned from where she was watching the stars appear and
looked at him. "Yes Shoki?"
"Ah, umm, I was wondering what your answer was."
Nabiki looked puzzled. "My answer to what?"
"Going out for a movie and a snack. I've already convinced Akane
and Ranma to come along." That had taken a major feat of talking too.
	"What about your fiancee, Shayla?"
Shoki blushed profusely. "She is not my fiancee! Listen, she
means nothing to me. Besides, I owe you for your help in calming Nodoka
down earlier today. I thought she was going to kill Kuno and me."
"Hmmm, okay, but how about tommorow night? I have to finish
tallying up damages for the contractor right now."
	"Uh, sure. Sounds great."

Okay, now the force is with me. Look for a new chapter in a couple of weeks!
