Was he interesting? Definitely - as was the portrayal of Ranma
in it, too. I missed one or two previous parts, so I wasn't too sure who
Kodachi's rival was, but I got the general drift.
Asuka's not from previous parts of this series; she's a character who
appeared briefly in the original Ranma 1/2. I did fill in some details
of her life for this chapter, since the original left a lot unanswered
about her.
Well, it removed Hikaru from being the only 'ordinary' person in
the group. Everyone else is a martial artist of some caliber or another,
with various special abilities and whatnot; Gosunkugi, however, had
nothing -- and as such, could have provided a very unique perspective in
the things to come.
Not quite everyone, there is still Nabsie, who will be with the group
some of the time. But your point is taken. I put a lot of thought into
deciding what to do with Gos in this series, and decided to let him
learn a couple special abilities, for a few reasons. For one thing, I
didn't want anyone to be totally useless in the crisis ahead. I also
thought it would make a good test of his character. He had the
possibility to become something akin to Happosai, and decided not to go
down that road despite that life was denying him a lot of what he
wanted.

But that's a minor gripe. It was a very well done chapter --
probably my favorite of the ones I've read so far.
Thanks! When I get done with all ten, I'm gonna set up a web poll for
people to vote on their favorite.
I question a bit his
motives in joining the expedition (it does seem to come a little bit out
of the blue, to me at least),
I'll look at that, it may be a little unclear. The point is that he's
had a taste of the exciting, unpredictable life that the other Ranma
characters lead, and he'd rather have that than a stable, secure, boring
existence.
but the last line makes it easy to ignore
(great ending line!).
Thanks! :)

Looking forward to seeing future chapters -- especially the Ranma
one! (Good think you're a quick writer -- well, quicker than me, at
least...)
No offense, but I think even Zen might be quicker that you... :-p ^_^
I've got exams coming up, but after that I'll have some time to finish
the preludes. It's good to know that people are reading and enjoying
them.
