JE>>As long as you don't get that f*c@a## director of Mortal Kombat
JE>>the movie who's so full of himself with his balding pate, you'll
JE>>be fine. Pheh, the best martial arts choreographer in the world
JE>>indeed! (For those who saw the Making of Mortal Kombat, you
JE>>know what I mean.)
JE>I know what you mean...after havin' seen fights from movies like 'Tai Chi
JE>Master' or any other Jet Li (I would rather use his real name, Lei Lee Geet)
JE>The Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight was okay though...but that's about it.
Yeah, that fight was mostly the only decent one, although I
wouldn't call it great by any Asian standard.
However, what I meant by my Mortal Kombat example was that,
in the making, they were primping Mortal Kombat to ridiculous
levels. They said something like, "We're combining Western
cinematography with Eastern action." While western cinematography
is, I must agree, much much better than Eastern, and Eastern
action is infinitely better than anything the West could ever offer,
this is not what Mortal Kombat achieved.
While they covered the Western end of the deal relatively fine,
they only did a mediocre job on the action part. I can accept that, BUT-
in the making, the jerks mentioned this martial arts choreographer.
In order to primp MK into something bigger than it actually is
(something
Western marketers are VERY good at), they brought up how good
this balding, gray-haired idiot was at Martial Arts choreography.
"He's done more block-buster Martial Arts movies than anyone
else. He's the best in the world."
Well EXCUSE me, but whoever this guy was (his name eludes me--
I haven't seen it in enough "block-buster" martial arts movies), he
was only a poor sap by definition of Martial Arts choreography. The
worst Eastern choreographers were better than this guy. And the
fool marketing group had the gall to call him the "best in the world."
Best in America, I can buy. Best in the world? The jerks have
probably never even seen an Eastern kung fu movie.
JE>>be terrible. Why? Because it's an anime and anime's a lot better
JE>>than the live movies! ^_^
JE>Yeah...like Fist of the North Star...man, I can't believe I saw garbage like
JE>that >:(
That was garbage alright. Even if it did have Malcolm MacDowel (did I
get the name right?). While of course we all know that anime and
live action isn't inherently comparable (my joking remark is a bit
exaggerated), anime doesn't really translate well to live action and
vice versa. Fist of the North Star was AWFUL. While I don't exactly
count the anime version as anything really spectacular, the movie
was FAR worse.
