I dunnow. Of course, it's *possible* for author-created stories to be
every bit as interesting as the real characters. However, what attracts
many of the people to the fanfic list is that it's *anime* fic, that the
characters being used are characters we've gotten interested in through
watching the anime. If the focus of the story is character development
of an author-developed character, it's hard to be interested. It's not
that the author is doing a poor job...but with a limited amount of time,
if I want to read character development of original characters, there's a
*lot* of books by well-established authors which I'd rather read.
Nothing personal, and I do enjoy fanfics, but there's some pretty stiff
competition out there. Similarly, if Kafka or somebody had written about
"Ranma 1/2", I'd never have joined the list ^_^.
