Jeez. It was showing in two different cinemas here in Brisbane... and
Canada had *none*? I find it hard to believe.
Believe it. Movie theatres up here don't show anything but mainstream
stuff. Small, non-mass market films don't get shown up here, except maybe
for MONTHS after the movie has been out. I believe the Princess Cinema in
Waterloo works that way.
Well, the theater that I saw Ghost in the Shell in is a bit on the unusual
side (with weekend Midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show,
side-stream shows, foreign films, and the occasional anime festival). They
do show anime pics, when given the opportunity. They bearly make a profit
at what they do, but they keep on going because the enjoy what they do.
Being in the middle of a college campus helps, I guess... ^_^
Some of the university anime clubs are able to get advance screenings of
some OVAs to come out. The anime club at my old university (Called 'Ctrl-A'
or Control-A) has done that on occasion.
I think the local anime club scheduels the anime festivals that are held at
that theater every year or so. I've only heard about the anime festivals
after they have happened (I dont see whats so hard about calling someone up
and inviting that person to come along. Geez, makes it look like your out
to get that person... ^_^)
Other than that, if Canadian anime fans want to see this stuff we've either
got to wait for the OVA videos, or pray that there might be a showing close
enough to the border to drive to in the US.
Or, give me a blank video tape, a large bag, and a camcorder, and I'll
record it for you!!! ^_^
