O.K. thanks.

Wow, and I thought she could only do it when she wasn't paying attention
to what her body was doing. I guess the fact that I'm writing this story
doesn't mean much. :-/

It was the way you wrote it. I was basing it on training as done in real
life. The way it is writen indicates a high degree of control even if it
is unconcious control.

She does end up with a good degree of control. But alot of times people
will have a natural talent for something, work at it, and have their
ability in that area go DOWN for a short period of time. This is what
happens as the conscious mind tries to learn what the unconscious already
knows. For Ranma, this is now only a few moments, as his instinct is very
close to thought, and once his body knows something, his mind is able to
use it. Maybe if I try explaining differently. When I row (sweep) if I
think about everything I have to do, I mess it up. If I leave it to my
body, just thinking about what happens next, it flows very well. My body
knows how to row, my mind knows what needs to be done. (I actaully make a
good rower, as I'm 6'3" and when rowing I'm only 159.9 pounds, the cutoff
for lightweight mens being 160 pounds. This gives me 6 inches on most
lightweight mens rowers, a great andvantage for extension. [brag mode off])

What happens to Akane is that she doesn't know (or didn't, sorry) what
she is doing until Cologne tells her. She just knows she needs something
to happen, and her unconscious takes whatever steps are needed. As she
learns conscious control, and gets used to the concept, she will find the
limits and uses of her 'talent'

I tried to be clear in stating 'fat for insulation'. Fat for
non-insulative purposes is possible, but has a different structure. It
really isn't that important to the story, but I like to be clear in my
notes, even beyond what a story covers, so I don't make mistakes.

You are talking about the white versus brown fat controversy which stated
a few years ago that since the two types of body fats have differing
micro-celluar structures and as brown fat is known to provide imediate
energy to the body, then white fat is not important to the energy
maintenance of the bodily systems. This is still perpetuated by some
diet companies as a way of selling their product. Truthfully, white body
fat is very improtant to the maintenance of the bodies metabolic function.

Actually, I've never heard of the white vs brown fat stuff. How fat is
deposited decides more about it's use. Fat for insulative purposes is
deposited in the sub-dermal layers of the skin, or just below the skin,
and is defficult for the body to metabolize. The most common energy fat
it depositied between muscle fibres, and is metabolized by the body for
long term energy (running marathons etc). Other fat reserves are used for
still different purposes, fat in the breasts (female mostly) is anchored
to strands of colagen and is used for energy in specific instances. But
the fat cells all have a basic similarity.

I know this as well, but Akane hasn't been hurt (physically) recently, and
even though her training keeps her in shape, ther is no need for her to
consume excessive amounts of foord.

This is true. Food consumption actually drops as one becomes conciously
in control of the bodies metabolism. This means that they can sustain a
higher level of activity with a lower metabolic rate because the system
has become highly efficient in the production of atp.

Yes, it is possible to train ones metabolism to be load oriented. In that
it will only combust the energy it needs, and store the rest as usable
fat. As a result one feels less hungry, and you become used to eating
less more often. Also, some people have different skin capillary action (so
called warms and chills) and burn more or less food for heat purposes.

I'm not sure how safe you'd be if you tried to tell Akane that she was
carrying around alot of fat. :)

It is a basic necessity.

It was a joke. :) yes, I didn't say her body would shed all the fat it
had, that would make her look really strangem, if nothing else.

If the fat is needed, it's not excess, is it? She will retain a store of
'energy' in the form of sugars, simple link proteins, and some complex
carb's, as well as fat.

True, but those do not allow for the amount of energy needed to heal the
body. When a person is healing themselves in the ways thought by the old
practitioners, a person can loose up to three pounds a day even while
eating a lot. Bodily repair takes a lot of energy especially when rushed.

I know, and with Akane if she was injured, she would find herself eating
more as a result of feeeling weaker/more hungry, but again if she did
decide to splurge, her body would convert it to heat/energy and she would
be hyper for a little while, but nothing realy more.

I didn't think a simple request for a name would get this complex. :)

Oh yeah, this stuff apears from 'eos@ghost.res.cmu.edu' but that account
is still under construction, any replies should be directed to
'bg715@freenet.carleton.ca'. I am trying to set the 'reply-to' to do
this, but elm isn't very cooperative. I've got to get pine working.

If you do send em to eos@ghost, I'll get them, but it'll be a bit before
I'm fully switched over.
